Word of Life Ranch Horsemanship Program

Standard Sessions

 

Word of Life’s Horsemanship Program is designed and supervised by our CHA (Certified Horsemanship Association) approved staff.

 

Instructional Sessions:

 

  • Four 90-minute sessions in which the camper learns to tie, lead, brush, tack and ride a horse (and possibly bridle and pick hooves depending on camper’s ability and horse’s temperament). A total of 6 hours per week will be allotted for Horsemanship. Please note that not all of this time will be riding, as outlined above.
  • One-on-one instruction and smaller classes provide for in-depth development, depending on the rider’s ability. There will be no more than 25 participants per class divided into beginner, intermediate and advanced riders. If the entire class is beginner or intermediate, etc. the program will be adjusted accordingly.

 

Requirements:

 

  • A child MUST be 8 years of age or older to participate. Deputies are not able to participate, but they will be given opportunities for pony rides.
  • Child must wear boots or lace-up shoes with a heel. Sneakers are not acceptable.
  • Long pants are required and an ASMTF 1163 approved helmet. Helmets are available at camp, if child does not own one.
  • Child must not weigh more than 220 lbs.

 

Rainy Days:

 

  • Rainy days will be spent learning basic care of the horse such as anatomy, sicknesses, proper feeding, breeds of horses and/or some videos on horses in general.

 

Participants Receive:

 

  • Certificate of completion.
  • Various certificates in several categories such as Most Improved and All-Around Cowboy or Cowgirl will be awarded.
